We included the Sony Ericsson Xperia arc (X12) in our 5 of the best Android smartphones at CES 2011 and have had a lot of positive things to say about it. The slimline handset with a 4.2-inch display and 1GHz Qualcomm processor will be running on Android 2.3 Gingerbread, and we know just how many of you are waiting for release date news.
We’ve also taken a look at a video taken with the Xperia arc camera and in our comprehensive look with video we told of a rumored release date for April. Now we hear from Chris Burns over on Android Community, sourced from Xperia Blog, that for readers in the UK at least, the release date is indeed April 1. Not only that but it’s available to pre-order right now.
It will be available from Play.com at a price of £459.99 unlocked, with free delivery. That might seem like a lot of money but when you consider the specs and the fact that the Xperia X10 last year cost £70 more then it looks like a bargain and it has to be said it is a beautiful looking thing.
Marc on IntoMobile also reports on pre-orders for the Xperia X12 arc and notes it makes the X10 look a “bulky and slow beast by comparison.” He also adds that the Xperia arc is a vast improvement on the phones being released by Sony Ericsson last year. What are your thoughts on the Xperia arc? Are you already getting online to pre-order? Let us know with your comments please.
