Quitting Smoking has to be one of the hardest things to do if you have been doing it for years; some decide to quit smoking by using chewing gum, patches, and electronic cigarettes. However, there could be a new way to bin the smoking habit by turning to social networking.
A new study has revealed that smokers are turning to social networking sites to quit; it is a sure way to have supporting bonds with others that are planning on quitting. Social networking is a whole lot cheaper than buying all the other types of products to quit the habit.
Study author and assistant professor in the department of advertising and public relations at the University of Georgia’s Grady College of Journalism and Mass Communication Joe Phua said those that joined health-based social networking sites were able to quit smoking and last for longer periods than those that did not, it is all about building a community of people that are also quitting.
I have also given up smoking, it has now been a full 7 weeks and I am not craving for a cigarette at all. I had help with friends on Facebook who pushed me and set me goals to give up; yes I smoked the electronic alternative for 3 weeks but then gave that up as well because that also becomes addictive.
I have to totally agree with the study that building a strong relationship within health and other social networking sites helps immensely.
