Social networks have made up a part of everyday life. We use Facebook and Twitter to keep up with what our friends are doing, and it’s hard to imagine life without them. If you’re not one of the unfortunate folks being locked out of social networks, then you may be interested in a new desktop client, which can support all of your social networks at once.
Beecher Tuttle over on TMCNet has an article about Seesmic Desktop 2, which can support “literally dozens of other services, including content that is not related to social networking”. Now you might be saying, ‘Jonathan, I’m already using other desktop clients, or services like Hootsuite, why do I want this?’
The answer is that this client supports more than just Facebook and Twitter. It currently supports Facebook, Twitter, Google Buzz, Foursquare, and LinkedIn as well as the ability to post to other networks using Ping.fm. What makes this stand out is the plugin marketplace, which allows you to add extra functionality to the software. Currently there are Bing Maps, Bit.ly, Migre.me and twitpic plugins available, and there is also an online marketplace for even more plugins.
Overall this looks a good package for those wanting to keep on top of their social networks from their desktop. Check out their website and give it a go for yourself. Then tell us your experiences in the comments.
