Could 2011 be the year of Nintendo in the world of gaming? They have managed to get the 3DS ready and pre-ordering for March ahead of its rivals Sony who aren’t expected to release the PSP2 (NGP) until later on this year.
As for as consoles go we feel that Nintendo really need to refurbish the Nintendo Wii, there needs to be a Wii 2 and preferably in 2011 as well. With careful timing and pricing if they were to release it towards the end of 2011 they could actually become the thorn in Sony’s side as it could dent the potential sales of the PSP2. Although they are different types of console (handheld and static) they both require that same thing that everyone uses… money.
The popularity of the Sony PlayStation 3 and the Microsoft Xbox 360 has soared in 2010 because of its wide audience appeal, great graphics addictive gameplay and fantastic titles. The Wii on the other hand appeals to a different type of gamer and a completely different audience.
The timing is all good for a refreshed console from Nintendo, according to an article written on Slashgear by Don Reisinger the Wii has sold extremely well in America. Nintendo’s figures say that in the U.S. alone they’ve sold 34 million consoles since its launch in 2006, which is pretty amazing when you look around at the competitors. The sales are beginning to decline and with the advancements in technology where it is moving towards 3D you have to wonder what Nintendo’s next move will be.
Is this an opportunity for Nintendo to move away from party games and get some serious titles in? Do you like the fact that the Wii is a party console? Let us know if you would like to see a Wii 2 in 2011 in the comments below.
