Although the Samsung Galaxy S2 seems to be the phone of the moment, there’s big news on the way for Motorola fans with news of a Motorola event on June 9 where it’s said there will be “hands-on demonstrations of Sprint and Motorola’s latest collaborations.” What’s more, it seems that one of the devices rumoured to appear is a handset called the Motorola Photon 4G, or alternatively Sunfire.
The exclusive event is getting a lot of people talking and Chris Ziegler over on ThisIsMyNext, sourced from TechnoBuffalo reports that a “very well-positioned source” has said that the event will feature a new smartphone called the Photon 4G. This sounds like a very notable handset if the leaked specs are anything to go by.
Features and specs include a Tegra 2 dual-core processor, 1GB of RAM, 8-megapixel rear camera and a 4.3-inch qHD display, much in the mould of the Motorola Droid Bionic then, that has seen a delay in its Verizon release. The Photon 4G is said to be set for a July release and will run on the Android 2.3 Gingerbread OS.
Ziegler also reports on more news of another Motorola handset, this time called Sunfire, also with a Tegra 2 processor that will have WiMAX and GSM compatibility but comes to the conclusion that this could be one-and-the-same as the Photon 4G and that Sunfire could merely be the codename. As the event invitation refers to “collaborations” in the plural there is also speculation that a Motorola Xoom WiMAX version might also be on the way.
Meanwhile, Mark Raby on TGDaily also reports on the upcoming Motorola event and says the Motorola Photon is also rumoured to have a laptop dock, which would make it comparable to the Motorola Atrix 4G. Interesting times ahead at Motorola and Sprint then and we can’t wait for June 9 to find out more. Are you in the market for a new smartphone and if so what are your initial thoughts on the Motorola Photon 4G?
