Here at OSM we’ve been following all the developments about the Motorola Xoom tablet device, felt to be a strong contender for the Apple iPad. Although the 3G version of this Android 3.0 Honeycomb tablet has been available since February 24 we recently told how the WiFi-only version of the Xoom could be released in April. We have now heard more news about a release date for the Motorola Xoom WiFi-only version and it looks as though it will be March 27.
A leaked sales ad from Staples clearly shows the Xoom WiFi-only with a release date of March 27 and a price of $599.98, which is also backed up with a leaked Staples inventory screen with the same price for the WiFi-only Xoom, according to Jerry Hildenbrand over on Android Central, sourced from Droid-Life. We noted before that many people had found the price of the 3G version of the Xoom prohibitive so we reckon there will be quite a demand for the WiFi-only version.
We’ve also told you of a price for the Xoom WiFi-only version of $539 at Sam’s Club which and would assume they will have stock on the same release day although of course, this is not confirmed news yet. Kevin Schram over on TFTS points out that Sam’s Club is a membership-only warehouse chain and are not as widespread as Staples and also notes that Staples seems to be more determined to get a part of the tablet action now.
