It is with great regret that web-based animator Monty Oum has sadly died, the 33-year-old animator who is very well know in the online gaming community was famous for his Dead Fantasy series and Haloid in 2007.
Employed by Rooster Teeth, they took to their site and left a heartfelt message to all of its readers. They report Monty Oum died after having a ‘suffered a severe allergic reaction’, which happened during a medical procedure. He went into a coma and his body couldn’t recover.
News of his death has spread on social media and the online-video world, tributes are pouring in with messages and artwork. One Twitter users said, “I admire great artists faith they need in the often pure darkness of their future, using only their ideas as a light beacon, like #MontyOum.”
Millions know his work; he started of by bringing to life Haloid, bringing characters from video games franchises Metroid and Halo. He also had a little time over at Namco Bandai Games working on the game Afro Samurai. He then joined Rooster Teeth as the choreographer and character animator.
Over on GoFundMe a page was set up titled, “Monty Oum Medical & Family Support’, this was set up to help pay the medical bills and support the family. 9,110 people have raised $219,518 of 50k in just three days.
