When you think of social networks and social networking what instantly jumps into your mind as having the biggest monthly growth? Perhaps Twitter where you are following your favourite celebrities or LinkedIn is where you are looking for a new job. Maybe you are thinking of Facebook because of its continual growth.
If you thought any of those social networking giants might top the charts for the month of April in terms of growth then you would be incorrect (for the UK anyway). We have just heard that the fastest growing social network in April is YouTube, are you surprised?
We found this out through PC Advisor’s Carrie-Ann Skinner who tells us that the Google-owned site accounted for 20.3 percent of all visits to social networking sites by Brits last month. Within the same report, Skinner mentions that YouTube is third in line when it comes to the biggest websites being trumped by Microsoft in second and of course Google in pole position.
The people that actually conducted the research are from a company called Experian Hitwise and you can view the results over on their press release. It’s hard to say what will happen if things carry on the way that they do, so I guess we will have to sit tight and wait and see.
