October 11 is the official International Day of the Girl, which was officially declared by the UN to raise awareness for global gender inequality. To discuss more on challenges and opportunities to empower young girls to achieve their full potential the U.S. Department of State are holding a Google Plus Hangout today.
The International Day of the Girl day was made official two years ago, and it is a day when activist groups can come together to all reach the same goal to discuss, highlight and even take action to give young girls rights and opportunities, it has been marked as a movement.
The Google Hangout by the U.S. Department of State will be held today October 9 at 7:30am EDT, where U.S. Ambassador for Global Women’s Issues Cathy Russell and many girls from around the world will come together.
Discussing will probably cover some of the shocking facts, around about 1 in 3 girls in the developing are married before they are 18, 250 million girls live in poverty and 62 million girls worldwide are out of school.
