Will Modern Warfare 3 Be The Best Call Of Duty Game So Far?

We are less than a month away to arguably the most anticipated video game of the whole year, Call Of Duty Modern Warfare 3. Every November Activision rolls out a new title which sparks a worldwide frenzy and sells millions of copies in the opening day. We have seen this repeating trend in recent years and it will without a doubt happen again next month. Despite this, will Modern Warfare 3 really be the best COD game so far if not ever?

MW3 will be the 8th title in the Call of Duty franchise and although the game has always had a strong following, I think it is fair to say it exploded in particular with the release of Call Of Duty 4: Modern Warfare. The 2007 title from Infinity Ward laid down the benchmark for all war games and was the game that really made Call Of Duty what it is today. A combination of gripping single player campaign and addictive adrenaline fueled multiplayer mode, won COD 4 many accolades and many regard it still as the best ever one made.

As you may know, each year the game developer alternates between Infinity Ward and Treyarch, who made 2008′s game World At War. The sheer popularity of Modern Warfare prompted millions to buy WAW despite it being set during the second world war and having a completely different feel to its predecessor. The campaign and multiplayer in my eyes were inferior to COD 4 but what saved the game was the birth of Nazi Zombies, an immensely popular feature which would reach unimaginable heights.

In 2009 Infinity Ward took their turn once again and decided to make a sequel to their previous title. Call Of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 broke all kinds of sales records and came with a completely revamped multiplayer in comparison to previous games. Players now had far more choice with more maps, killstreak rewards and many other unlockables. MW2 was a huge step up in my eyes, but many were skeptical it was not dedicated to “hardcore” players and was aimed at anyone who could hold down the trigger button.

A big complaint of the Call Of Duty franchise is that it has become overcrowded with young kids despite its mature (18+) game rating. Modern Warfare 2 was a fantastic game but some of the controversial features IW put into the game made it easier for the better players and harder for the inexperienced players. Frowned upon methods like “One Man Army Noobtubing” and using the “Commando” perk was a huge turn off for many mature gamers and some have switched their attentions to games like Battlefield. Coincidentally MW3 will go head to head with Battlefield 3 as both launch within a month of each other.

The most recent COD title we have is Black Ops, developed by Treyarch. The increasing popularity trend continued and Black Ops smashed Modern Warfare 2′s sales and pre-order figures. The game itself in terms of campaign and multiplayer were mixed in opinion, Treyarch made changes to try and remove the negative aspects of previous titles. The stand out game mode from Black Ops was zombies with no less then 4 DLCs being launched, the most recent being Rezzurection.

On November 8th hysteria will once again kick in as Infinity Ward’s Modern Warfare 3 launches worldwide. From the various trailers and events based on the game we have seen so far, it looks to be keeping many traditions from the previous MW editions. The story continues in campaign and the multiplayer format is the same but different, see one of our other articles for more in depth information. We also see the addition of survival mode which carries many of the same characteristics of zombies, MW3 has all the ingredients to make a really awesome game.

There does not look to be any fundamental changes in MW3, but I think this is a good thing as many of us want something we are all familiar with. The campaign is based around worldwide chaos resulting in world war 3, landmarks like the Eiffel Tower can be seen toppling over which will surely get the heart pumping. Depending on your taste in shooter games, I believe Modern Warfare 3 will be the best Call Of Duty title so far if you are expecting the same as in previous games. If you are looking for something completely new and different this year then you may be left disappointed. Let us know your thoughts and expectations for MW3 in the comments section below.

You do realize Infinity Ward is a real studio any more, just a fancy name at the disposal of Activision to stir up interest since they fired the creators of the game, (COD original, MW, & MW2). Truly the game is being developed by Sledgehammer and NOT infinity ward, but by all means feed the hype…

also this “IW put into the game made it easier for the better players and harder for the inexperienced players.” is the opposite of the truth…

MW3 is shaping up to be the best Halo mod out there
