COD MW3 Will Bring Support To Color-Blind Gamers

The 8th November is a big date circled in every gamers diary, as it marks the sensational release of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3. This year’s edition of the game is set to be packed out with even more new features, but a new one that has not been done before in the Modern Warfare series is support for color blind gamers. Due to the sheer popularity of the game and its millions of players, it is likely there will be a majority who suffer from the sight problem.

Figures from Escapist Magazine show that 7-10% of males between 18-25 who play the game will suffer from color blindness. If you play the game online then you will know how fast paced the battle is and the color of the name over a player’s head will tell you if they are a team mate or enemy. It takes just a split second to determine whether you get the kill or die, so color blind support will be important for suffering gamers to enjoy the experience properly.

Those figures only apply to men who abide by the age restriction on the game. We all know that millions of under 18s also play the game and it is a certainty that some of them will also suffer from color blindness. Some may not suffer from full on color blindness, but a deficiency in some colors like red and green which are crucial to the game as they show the player who is a friend and who is a foe. Men in the Western population are reportedly 20% more likely to suffer from the problem than women.

The support feature was confirmed by Michael Condrey, the co-founder of Sledgehammer Games who are assisting Infinity Ward with the creation of the game. The developer said: “I am happy to report that we are working on a Colour-Blind Assist option for Modern Warfare 3″. Condrey went on to say that over 1 million gamers play Call of Duty every day with this sight issue. The addition of this feature will most certainly be one that is welcomed by all gamers.

According to T3, Call of Duty: Black Ops introduced the support for gamers with color blind issues so it only seems natural that Modern Warfare 3 follows up in this and continues it. In honesty color blind gamers would probably buy it even if there was no support included but the appeal is raised with features like this. Just watching the first reveal trailer is enough to get anyone’s heart pumping for some intense warfare.

You can keep up to date with all of the game’s latest news by liking their Facebook page. When you do so you will be one of the first to hear of new features such as Call of Duty Elite. At least with the color blind support, there is now no excuse for friendly fire, just as Condrey joked in an interview. Let us know your expectations for the game and if your gaming experience will be increased by the color blind support feature.
