Galaxy S2 vs New Nokia N9: Battle Of Camera Imaging

Just yesterday reports came in that Nokia would in fact be releasing a new smartphone the “N9” with its MeeGo OS. Since the start of this year, we have seen many handsets arrive with others following closely behind. Ok, to some, the Finnish make may lack credibility compared to others from Apple and Android but people’s perceptions could change when the N9 finally launches.

Before we give you a basic rundown of specs, its the camera capabilities that have caught our eye today, with Product Manager “Jens Wilkes” stating that the N9 will be the “fastest image-capturing phone on the market.” A big statement to make when you think about some of the competition with the new Galaxy S2, iPhone 4 and so on.

The handset which incorporates a 8MP rear camera with Carl Zeiss wide-angle lens and as two LED flash units, is reported to take an image in a mind blowing 2.6 seconds. This as Wilkes stated is from when “the camera is turned on, viewfinder is ready, focus on the subject and the image is captured.”

As you can see from the chart below, a variation of handsets were used against each other, each with the results clearly identified. Slashgear reported that unlike the N9, Apple’s iPhone 4 takes 3 seconds and the Galaxy S2 slightly longer. The top end of the scale taking a staggering 8.3 seconds was that of the HTC HD7.

In terms of N9 specs, you can expect to find a 3.9-inch AMOLED display, 1GHz ARM Cortex-A8 processor, 1GB of RAM, 16 or 64GB of storage to choose from, social networking benefits, that 8MP rear camera and so on. Currently a concrete release date and price have not been announced.

Is it fair to put the N9 up against some of the top players such as the Galaxy S2 or the iPhone 4/5? Is the speed of the camera imaging a big deciding factor? How do you think the N9’s new MeeGo OS will stand up against Android or iOS?
