Motorola Droid 3 GLBenchmark Results Impress: Bionic Rival?

June 21, 2021 | Debbie Turner

We’ve been keeping readers informed with all the developments and news on the Motorola Droid 3, even though Verizon has been pretty secretive so far. Just yesterday we told how we think the release is very close as the Droid 3 has been added to Verizon’s MAP list. Today we have news of GLBenchmark results for the Droid 3 which are very impressive and we wonder if some might now consider it as a Droid Bionic rival.

We recently also told of a rumored launch for the Motorola Droid 3 of July 7 although this has not yet been confirmed. Some of the leaked specs include a 4-inch qHD display, 8-megapixel rear camera, slideout keyboard and it will run on Android 2.3 Gingerbread. There’s also an OMAP 4430 dual-core processor and it looks from the benchmark results as if the Droid 3 will certainly be a notable handset, in fact much more so than many of us may previously have thought.

The GLBenchmark 2.0 results may certainly surprise you and were brought to our attention by Kellex over on Droid-Life, sourced from AnandTech. The ‘Egypt’ test for example showed the Droid 3, only behind the LG Optimus 3D, which uses the same processor but does have a lower resolution screen. Many other handsets that we might have imagined would perform better actually lagged behind, such as the HTC EVO 3D, HTC Sensation, LG Optimus 2X, Nexus S, Droid Charge and many more.

Meanwhile in the ‘Pro’ test the Droid 3 came in fifth position, which we were still pretty impressed with. Anton Nagy over on Pocketnow also reported on these benchmark tests and points out that while these results don’t necessarily reflect real-life performance, the Droid 3 is looking pretty good.

We wondered previously if some of you still waiting for the Motorola Droid Bionic might decide to opt instead for the Droid 3, although the Droid 3 is not a 4G LTE handset. After these benchmarks though there may be a few more of you who are tempted. We’re interested to hear your thoughts on this so let’s have your comments please.
