Motorola Droid Bionic Release Speculation: Early Next Month?

June 15, 2021 | Debbie Turner

We’ve written numerous articles now about the much-desired Motorola Droid Bionic heading to Verizon. Regular readers may remember the Bionic was delayed for ‘enhancements’ and we recently gave you leaks on the new specs. However, what everybody really wants to know is when will see this smartphone at last. Today we have news on some current Droid Bionic release speculation, which believes we could see it launched early next month.

For more background to the Bionic you may want to read some of our previous articles so click on the links for more on particular aspects. For instance we recently took a look at the improved Droid Bionic vs. the Galaxy S2, wondered whether or not it would have an unlocked bootloader and only yesterday discussed whether it’s 4G LTE significance would have an influence on buyers’ decisions when deciding on this phone, the Galaxy S2, or indeed any other smartphone. As a brief recap on the improved specs for the Droid Bionic we can tell you that leaks suggest a new 8-megapixel camera with 1080p HD video capture and a possible increase of screen size to 4.5-inches from the 4.3-inch display originally planned. It also looks as though it will run on the latest Android mobile operating system, 2.3.4 Gingerbread.

The speculation regarding a release as early as next month, in fact before July 6, comes to us from Jean Xiam Sun over on Pop Herald. A new press release has been issued from Verizon to say that its free 4G LTE Mobile Hotspot feature offer has been extended to July 6 whereas previously it was to finish on June 15. The Mobile Hotspotting has enabled owners of the HTC Thunderbolt, Droid Charge and LG Revolution to have faster Internet connections for their laptops and WiFi devices via 4G LTE. Now users of this feature will receive texts from Verizon about a software update, which will remove the offer after this extension and from then on there will be charges to subscribe to the service.

Pop Herald makes the valid point of asking why the extended date to July 6? It certainly suggests a new LTE handset arrival or why bother with an extension. This then could be for the release of the Droid Bionic as sales are always helped by offers such as this. A July arrival would also give enough time to tempt iPhone customers to its 4G LTE network rather than wait for the iPhone 5 release, rumored to be coming in September, which may or may not have 4G LTE support. Kellex over on Droid-Life also reports on the extension of the free Mobile Hotspot service and you can see the Verizon statement at the Droid-Life link.

Of course this is all speculative but it does make sense that the extension could be because the Motorola Droid Bionic is coming very soon so fingers crossed. Are you waiting for the Bionic on Verizon? If so why are you opting for the Bionic rather than another smartphone? Let us know with your comments.

Appreciate all the updates on the Droid Bionic…..can’t wait to upgrade my Verizon Motorola Droid original.

Thanks for reading and from our previous readers’ comments there’s an awful lot of you waiting for the Bionic.

  • Earl Russ

I think the extended free hotspot is because they are getting ready to release their new tiered data plans, not because of the bionic. I do hope the bionic comes soon though

The Droid Charge was having issues with the Hotspot, and that’s why they’re extending the free Hotspot. It doesn’t make much sense to extend the hotspot until July 6th, if the Bionic is coming out in early July (so you get 3 days of free hotspot?!?) The press release said nothing about the Bionic. And, there’s no way that they’ll release the Bionic and Droid3 so close together. I’m sorry to be the bearer of bad news, but it’s not looking like an early July release is imminent for all of us Bionic-anticipators… Just pure speculation as we’ve been experiencing for the past 6 months.

Yup I’m in the same boat. Well actually not really LOL I killed my OG Droid a couple months back and was looking forward to picking up the Bionic. Well here I am a couple months later no Bionic and using a POS BB Storm that makes me LONG for the days of my OG Droid lol

………..Still waiting. If the Bionic comes out as the same time as the iPhone 5 I might actually have to compare the 2. If the Bionic comes out first then I’ll definitely jump on that =)

I agree. Someone is really jumping to a false conclusion over at Pop Herald. I hope they are right but I’m skeptical.

I have been waiting very impatiently for the Bionic and have almost cracked and settled for the Charge or Iphone. The Specs of the Bionic really has everything im looking for in a phone whereas most other phones recently released seem to be missing something. IE. If its got a great camera, it lags due to processor.I havent gone Iphone because if Im going to get one Im going to AT&T so that I can be able to talk and use data at the same time if need be.Im not an OS fan either even though the new software upgrade seems to be looking pretty cool coming in the fall. Im a google Android fan and I dont want to leave Verizon so Im sticking it out for the Bionic. Please be right about July 6th. I dont want to change my mind again.

I am certainly waiting for this phone. It is the ONLY phone out there that has or will have, what I MUST have before I buy another phone.
    1. Be on the Verizon Network
    2. Be 4G LTE capable
    3. Have a dual core prcessor
    4. Have at least a 4.3 inch screen

This phone seems to have it all and unless the inital reviews or horrible then I will buy this phone very soon after it comes out.

If this phone is essentially the same as the Photon and the Atrix 4G, wouldn’t they have virtually the same specs? The Photon on Sprint and the Atrix on ATT have 1GB of RAM while the Bionic only has 500MB.

  • Ralph

With the rumored Specs of the Samsung Function, the Bionic better have 1GB RAM.

  • Muzicman61

I’ll jump on the one that hits the market first.

  • Michael Leonard

While the Atrix and Photon have 1GB of RAM and the Bionic only has 500MB, the ram in the Bionic is fully fledged DDR2 RAM which is more versatile and power efficient than typical “cell phone RAM.”

Dual Core, 4G LTE, 1080p video capture, 4.5 inch screen, Gingerbread. There is no way I am getting any other phone. If quad-core comes out near Christmas I will get a quad-core phone next July. But for now I am going to get my hands on a Droid Bionic.
