GOP Debate Who Came Out Best? According to Facebook

The presence of social media in politics seems to growing rapidly and we’ve told of presidential bids being launched on Twitter and Facebook, the White House on Facebook, and then yesterday talked about the GOP debate and the massive impact it had on Twitter. To keep things well rounded today we wanted to take a look at the GOP debate winner according to Facebook.

The New Hampshire Republican Presidential debate was watched by millions and many of those viewers also marked their opinions of the candidates by ‘liking’ the Facebook pages of those involved. Jolie O’Dell over on Mashable brings us some news of analysis of Facebook data for the debate, gathered by Likester, which tells us which candidate was most popular with Facebook users.

The big ‘winner’ was Mitt Romney while at the bottom of the pile were Newt Gingrich, Tim Pawlenty and Rick Santorum with the least amounts of new likes. Romney gained the most new likes from the debate and also has the greatest number of Facebook likes overall. Michelle Bachmann took second position above Ron Paul. Although Paul has more likes overall, Bachman gained more new likes from the debate. If you check out the Mashable link above you can see the stats for each of the 7 candidates with regard to Facebook.

It certainly makes for interesting reading and we look forward to social media being increasingly used in this way to show us the outcome of debates.
