Messi’s Facebook “Likes” Rocket After 3-1 Triumph Over Reds

Since its launch in 2004, social networking site Facebook is now used by some 600 million active users. People can add friends and loved ones, upload and share photos, update their daily status and so on. As well as this the site allows its fans to play games, get invited to forthcoming events and follow celebrity figures. Although popular, the site has at times caused much controversy surrounding its privacy failings, and just recently we reported about how CEO Mark Zuckerberg was hoping to reduce the current age limit of 13, saying that youngsters would gain educational knowledge from being on the site. Obviously this is up for debate.

The latest star who is no stranger to Facebook, embracing a huge following of fans is that of Argentinean footballer Lionel Messi. To find out more on him click here. Just three days ago on the 28 May, the forward/winger player scored for his Barcelona team against Manchester Utd in what ended up with his team winning 3-1. This allowed the Spanish side to lift the UEFA Champions League Trophy.

Following on from the win, the player dubbed the “best” in the world took to the site and shared his feelings of their triumphant win, which saw some 105,936 Facebook “likes,” 18,808 comments and some 100,000 new fans, these figures rose from the Saturday 28 to the 30 May. According to The Independent, Messi from opening his account on the 6 April, saw a staggering 7 million fans take to the site just after 7 hours.

Messi’s message on Facebook read, “This is amazing! Another championship and my third! Thank God! Today is a very special day! Now I want to do the same with the National Team!”
