Record Breakers: Angry Birds & App Store Enter Guinness’s Book

May 16, 2022 | Matt Tran

Its the same old suspects again… Angry Birds and Apple have broken more records in the mobile phone industry and have been rewarded by taking a place in the Gamer’s Edition of the Guinness Book of World Records.

Rovio’s destructive masterpiece has smashed into the record books for most paid downloads across the world, it has been reported by iPhone Help. The app is paid for on iOS and free on Android, so that only tells half of the story on how popular Angry Birds is. The mobile game was also voted app and game of the year at the Appy Awards.

Apple on the other hand enjoyed the accolades of “the most popular app selling marketplace” and the “fastest selling portable mobile gaming system”. Step forward the App Store and iPhone 4! We could well see this record changing in 2012 as the Android Market is fast becoming a major rival and is threatening to overtake Apple at any moment.

Guinness launches a gamer’s edition of the book of world records each year, with the likes of Call of Duty, Halo and World of Warcraft awaiting readers inside. iPhone 4 and App Store’s success should be credited to Angry Birds and vice versa. Apple and Rovio should thank each other for all the success that they are getting. Let’s admit it, this game is so addicting that you will seriously consider purchasing an iPhone 4 or iPad 2 just for you to be able to play this game while App Store making it all possible.
