Apple iPhone 5 (4GS): NFC Will Not Be Present

May 16, 2022 | Tim Ollason

There’s a lot of speculation surrounding the up and coming device from Apple that if we are honest nobody really knows what it will and won’t have in terms of specs and features. We like many others speculate about what could, should and will be there and undoubtedly some of it is right whilst some of it is wrong.

Some of the recent reports on the Apple iPhone 5 or as its apparently going to be known the 4GS, say that there’s a redesign on the rear of the device where the camera and flash are (if cases are anything to go by), whilst others are trying to guess the specs and adding them to infographic presentations. Now we have heard that the iPhone 5 or 4GS will not have NFC present.

NFC (Near Field Communication) is one of the sought after features of the next generation of mobile phones, for those that are unfamiliar with the term, it will simply allow you to do a few things that you otherwise couldn’t such as use your phone as a method of payment.

We first learned of this information through an entry on iClarified where they sourced an article over on Business Insider by Jay Yarow where he explains that NFC isn’t very widespread in the US at the moment so Apple’s decision of whether to include it or not probably isn’t that big a deal. There are a few speculative figures on Yarow’s article so head over and have a look at them too.

What do you think; will the iPhone 5 (or 4GS) have NFC included? Reports say no at the moment but nothing has been confirmed by Apple yet. Let us know your thoughts in the comments section below.
