When it comes to the world of the eReader it has pretty much been a two horse race between Barnes & Noble and Amazon with the Kindle. The B&N model that seems to have done the best so far for them in terms of sales and popularity is the NOOK Color so it would make sense for them to play on that and release a successor.
The NOOK Color certainly seems like a solid little device that has capabilities beyond its limitations that are put upon it. You might remember that we have already seen the device running Android Honeycomb 3.0 and the processor has been overclocked to 1.1GHz which is pretty impressive. Now we have read that Barnes & Noble has a new eReader refresh coming, we are wondering if it’s the NOOK Color 2 being released.
We first learned of this through Phandroid’s Chris Chavez who has added an article saying that B&N will be adding a new device on May 24th which certainly isn’t too far away. While we are all waiting for a powerhouse eReader there’s a chance that they may actually redesign the ones they have making slight improvements to make sure they can continue to compete with Amazon and the Kindle.
That’s the one thing about upgrading the products, the cost starts to go up and obviously that will put people off. The original source for the information is marketwatch.com where their author Maxwell Murphy where he is talking about the integration of a more up to date Android OS, perhaps Honeycomb 3.0. I guess we will just have to wait and see what happens on May 24th.
