If you haven’t had your head in the sand for the last few days then you will know that Osama Bin Laden, one of the leaders of Al Qaeda has been killed. Since then we have seen a roundup of what it’s done to the world of social media with Twitter reaching an all time high. Following on from there we wanted to talk to you about the Twitter stats that have been revealed following Osama Bin Laden’s death.

The stats were shown over at Mashable where their author Ben Parr reports that before President Obama’s speech, users were generating around 5,100 tweets per second making it the highest volume of tweets during the night. When he had finished the speech there was still 5,000+ tweets per second coming through.

A tweet from twitterglobalpr said that from 10:45 – 2:20am ET there was an average of 3,000 Tweets per second which is pretty astonishing. A quick calculation and it tells you that the total number of tweets in 2 hours 35 minutes is at 27,900,000. Check out the graph below that Twitter released shortly after their tweet.
