Sony PS3 Hacker GeoHot Sets His Eyes On The Apple iPad 2

May 2, 2022 | Tim Ollason

GeoHot is a name that will mean something to a few people and nothing to others, it’s the name of a famous hacker George Hotz who is the same guy that has just been dragged through the courts by Sony because he hacked his PS3 and exposed it’s Holy Grail unlock code.

He is the same guys that performed the original jailbreak for the iPhone and now he is returning for their new device on the market. Now that very same Sony PS3 hacker GeoHot has set his eyes on the Apple iPad 2 following a formal challenge via Twitter.

We read over at Redmond Pie in an article by Oliver Haslam that P0sixninja (Joshua Hill) had challenged other hackers to try and hack the iPad 2 before he does. We don’t think he was expecting Mr.Hotz to step up but P0sixninja has tweeted that GeoHot doesn’t have an iPad right now but will have very soon.

He has also said that he has challenged GeoHot to dump the iPad 2 bootrom before him and that having a worthy opponent will motivate him to work harder! This is brilliant news if you are sat waiting for an iPad 2 jailbreak as it means it will certainly be on its way pretty soon.

What do you think of jailbreaking the iDevices? When it’s available will you go ahead and jailbreak your iPad 2? Let us know in the comments section below.

I think it's a neat idea. If only Apple already gave people what they wanted, then jail breaking them won't be necessary. I'm not talking about getting games or apps for free. I'm talking about features people would like to have such as expandable memory or attachment to all sorts of other devices. There should be some lockdown but Apple seems to be more locked restrictive than what law-abiding people would like.
