Sn0wbreeze 2.6.1 Untethered Jailbreak For Verizon iPhone 4

May 2, 2022 | Tim Ollason

When it comes to jailbreaking your iPhone it certainly can open up doors that otherwise wouldn’t have been there. We previously posed the question of what can the iPhone 5 take from jailbreaking and add in so there wasn’t a need for it to be exploited?

The Verizon iPhone 4 is a device that has been a little tricky to get an untethered jailbreak for, however Sn0wbreeze 2.6.1 has now been released and is available. The mastermind behind the development is a hacker who goes by the name of ‘ih8sn0w’ and you can view his Twitter page on this link.

We learned of this through Taimur Asad over on Redmond Pie, in his report he mentions that the 4.2.7 untethered jailbreak is pretty similar in terms of instructions to that of the 4.3.2. He says that you simply download Sn0wbreeze 2.6.1 and then follow their instructions replacing 4.3.2 with 4.2.7.

So first things first, let’s make sure you have all the tools that you need to get your jailbreak completed. You will need iTunes installed which if you don’t have you can grab from this link and also Sn0wbreeze 2.6.1 which you can get here. Of course your iPhone will need to have the version of iOS 4.2.7 on your device.

Next start Sn0wbreeze and then click on the blue arrow in the bottom right of your window, then select the required firmware which is an ‘.ipsw’ file using the browse button. Sn0wbreeze will then try to identify the IPSW file and once it’s done the arrow in the bottom right will go blue, click on it.

Now select ‘Expert Mode’ and then ‘Build IPSW’ to create the custom firmware from here you can select any of a few different options including General, Unlocks, Custom Packages, Custom Boot Logos and Build IPSW. Once you continue and your firmware is being built you are given the option of playing a bit of Pac-Man while you wait. When it’s been completed you will get a gleeful message saying ‘Done!’ with a nice big green tick and it tells you that your IPSW file is on your desktop.

Now click on OK and follow the steps to the DFU mode on Sn0wbreeze, here you finally get to press some buttons! Hold in the power and home buttons for 10 seconds then release the power button but not the home one, keep this held down for a further 10 seconds and your device will enter a DFU state. When it has been done correctly you will see a screen like the shot below.

Now open iTunes and click on your device in the sidebar of iTunes, now you need to hold the left SHIFT key and click on ‘Restore’. At this point iTunes would normally expect you to select the 4.3.2 file but instead select your custom ‘.ipsw’ file that we made earlier and click on ‘Open’. All you need to do now is sit back and let iTunes finish the job for you.
