A little over a month ago we brought you the news that Android was the number 1 smartphone OS in the US. I recent study has been conducted in the UK and now it appears that Google’s software is also our nation’s favourite mobile operating system.
The survey was undertaken by a British banking software provider called Intelligent Environments and the results showed that Android was the top OS in the UK with a majority 28% vote, as reported by Electric Pig. As you may have expected Apple’s iOS software for their iPhone came shortly after with a 26% share, which is not bad at all when you consider that Android provide software for a number of phone manufacturers whilst Apple only use their own.
Trailing down in 3rd is RIM’s Blackberry with 14% and bizarrely Windows Phone 7 did not even get a mention; however it is relatively new as an OS in comparison to the above so if it is given time it will surely grow a larger user base. Nokia’s old OS Symbian is a thing of the past and all future models will have WP7 as their mobile software. Google are still confident they can pursuade Nokia to use Android instead.
Nokia will be bringing out tablets this year and it is not necessarily Microsoft who will provide the OS; you may well find it is Android with their tablet specific Honeycomb 3.0 operating system. Google supply Android to manufacturers such as HTC, Sony Ericsson, Motorola and Samsung, as well as a number of tablets. Is Android your favourite OS?
