Angry Birds Rio Smashing Through 1 Million Downloads A Day

Angry Birds is just about the biggest mobile game going and it continues to amaze with its monstrous download figures and user popularity. The newest edition “Rio” is no exception as it has stormed to over 10 million downloads in the first 10 days of release!

Rovio’s masterpiece has been doing the rounds on the Apple’s App Store and Google’s Android Market, with one offering a paid version and the other a free. We all love things that are free, so it would appear that Android’s offering is where a chunk of the downloads have been coming from. The iOS version of Rio is being sold for £1.79 and is also available on the iPad according to Geeky Gadgets.

Our friends over at Cnet who are also big Angry Birds fans, have explained that Rio slightly differs from the classic version of the game. The biggest difference is that the evil little piggies are no more, instead you must launch the birds to free others from cages. You may be aware that an animated feature film called Rio is out in cinemas soon, and you probably put 2 and 2 together and figured they are connected.

Angry Birds Rio features 2 of the main characters from the movie who are “Blu” and “Jewel” with the film’s story line being connected to the film. All of this was possible because of the deal that Rovio made with 20th Century Fox.

Angry Birds fans will want to go and see Rio in the cinema and people who have not played the game before may just give it a try after watching the movie. Has the game/film partnership had an effect on you? Tell us if you have downloaded Rio and if you think it is as good as the classic game, as well as if you will be going to see Rio on the big screen.

It works for me! Whenever I see Rio, the first thing that comes to mind is 'Angry Birds'! Although this has the opposite effect to what they want, because I don't want to see Rio, I want an Angry Birds movie!

What are the reasons that make Angry Birds so amazing ?

Hmm, I guess it's because you get so much out of a game that costs so little, the game is easy to play but hard to master and it's the basic joy of pulling back a slingshot and watching a tower fall down . It's just a fun little game to pass the time with, and it's popular, so many people buy it simply because they've heard others talk about it, that's what I did :)
