Sony over the last few years have been dipping their toes into the handheld console market with the likes of the Sony PSP and now they are moving forward with announcements about the NGP. The NGP is the next console in the PSP lineup aka the PSP2 and not only that but today is the release day for the Sony Ericsson Xperia Play.
That being the case there’s some newly released news about Sony Music Unlimited streams for the Xperia Play, PSP and the NGP. We first heard about the news in a report by Engadget’s Sean Hollister where he says that this is cause for celebration as Sony’s subscription music service will be hitting us within a matter of weeks.
The original source for the information was Eurogamer, Wesley Yin-Poole has added an article where they were talking to Shawn Layden who is the executive president and CEO of Sony Network Entertainment. This seems to be the beginning of something big such as Sony Cloud gaming, there’s a real desire to be able to port your gaming profile between your NGP and the Sony PS3 so are these the first steps towards an almost “social” profile on the PSN?
Eurogamer’s author also tells us that Layden has told them that not only will it be hitting the PSP in a matter of weeks but it will also be hitting Android devices in the Xperia Play “This Year”. We are presuming that the same service will hit the NGP when the beast of a device eventually comes out.
