There are some amazing upcoming Android smartphones on the way and two that are really impressing us on what we’ve seen so far are the HTC Droid Incredible 2 and the Samsung Galaxy S II (S2). We’ve previously compared the Samsung Galaxy S II with the Motorola Droid Bionic, another notable upcoming handset, but today we thought we’d look at the Samsung Galaxy S II vs. the HTC Droid Incredible 2 in an attempt to help you make the best choice for your needs.
We’ll give you some things to think about, considering what we know so far, to try to help you choose which one, if either, is right for you. Please bear in mind that although the Galaxy S II specs are now official, we only have some leaked specs of the Incredible 2 to go on, and the rumored release dates may be subject to change.
Firstly we need to look at the operating systems and the Samsung Galaxy S II will definitely be shipped with Android 2.3, Gingerbread. The Droid Incredible 2 (known as the Droid Incredible S in Europe) is thought to also be running on Android 2.3 with HTC Sense on release so not much between them there. As far as the display goes the Galaxy S II has a 4.3-inch Super AMOLED Plus whereas the Incredible 2 has a 4-inch Super LCD WVGA screen.
Moving on to camera capability, the Galaxy S II has an 8-megapixel rear camera with LED Flash and a 2-megapixel front-facing camera with video recording and capture of 1080p. The Incredible 2 by comparison also has an 8-megapixel rear camera and a 1.3-megapixel front-facing so the Galaxy S II just has the edge here. On to the all-important processor and the Galaxy S II has the NVIDIA Tegra 2, 1GHz dual-core processor and the Incredible 2, a 1GHz Qualcomm MSM 8655 processor. Battery sizes see the Galaxy S II just edge it with a 1650mAh battery whilst the Incredible 2 has a 1450mAh battery.
As far as memory is concerned the Galaxy S II has the edge again with 16/32 GB storage and 1GB of RAM whilst the Incredible 2 has 4GB storage and 768MB of RAM so a clear winner there. The Samsung Galaxy S II also features Samsung’s Android skin, TouchWiz 4.0 which is pretty nifty and will make some controls available with hand gestures, which we previously wrote about here.
Moving on to carriers, the Samsung Galaxy S II should be coming in variants to different carriers and only yesterday we heard that the official specs hint that AT&T will be getting the handset first and that it was expected shortly. However we also heard yesterday of a leaked Verizon roadmap which showed expectation that the Galaxy S II would be released on the Verizon 4G LTE network in May, but with no exact date. The Droid Incredible 2 is a 4G handset for the Verizon 4G LTE network and the rumored date for that is April 28.
UPDATE – The Incredible 2 is not a 4G capable phone but is for the Verizon network.
There’s a lot to impress with both of these upcoming handsets and some similarities, although we’d say the Galaxy S II excels, but of course, the design preference is very much down to personal taste and will affect your choice. The price is no doubt another factor to take into consideration although there is no pricing available yet but we hope we’ve given enough details to enable you to begin to make an informed choice. As said previously, you can check out the full specs for the Samsung Galaxy S II at the Samsung product page here along with pictures of this beautifully sleek handset.
What are your thoughts on these 2 promising handsets and would you be tempted to buy either? If so we’d be interested to know which you’ll opt for and why? Please do let us know with your comments.
