If you’re a Manchester United fan you may have read our article about how the football club has the most active followers on Facebook and now we have some more news following the team’s 1-0 win against Bolton yesterday involving Rio Ferdinand and his prolific Twitter account.

You will no doubt be aware that Man U defender Johnny Evans was sent off after a heavy tackle against Bolton’s Stuart Holden with 15 minutes of the game left to play. Referee Andre Marriner issued a straight red card to Evans for his challenge on Holden, who was stretchered from the pitch with a gash to his knee. Evans now faces a three-match suspension at a vital time for his team, who are currently besieged with injuries.

According to a report on Metro, Rio Ferdinand took to Twitter to lend his support for Jonny Evans and tweeted, “I hope Holden is ok, a honest solid tackle between him and Evans and Evans gets a red card….I don’t agree at all.” Even Bolton Wanderer manager, Owen Coyle, appeared to think the sending off was a bit harsh saying, “I think the players reacted the way they did because a cut opened up on his knee.” Luckily for Man U it didn’t affect the result of the game as Dimitar Berbatov scored an 88th minute goal to win the match 1-0.
