Big Birds: Rovio Swoops $42 Million In Funding

March 10, 2022 | Matt Tran

The creator of the successful Angry Birds game, Rovio, has been given a very generous fundraiser by a trio of investment firms. Rovio has managed to stockpile $42 million which will be used to expand, and make Angry Birds even bigger!

The Finnish based games developer who recently pulled off a stunning deal to bring the Birds to Facebook, has now an extra $42 million in its back pocket to expand its reach internationally and across new gaming platforms beyond mobile phones, as reported by Canadian Business. Angry Birds is already the biggest mobile game in history and the prospect of it also coming to social networks is scary.

Mashable has reported that the investors who pumped the $42 million into Rovio are Accel Partners, Atomico and Felicis Ventures, all of whom have been know to also invest in to Facebook. In the past year the game was gone from an ordinary iPhone game to a multi platform record breaking app. Angry Birds had 42 million downloads in its first year since release and 25% of those were paid for; you can imagine how big a year 2011 is going to be for Rovio.

Angry Birds Rio will excite Angry Birds lovers, as well as the launch of a TV series, board game, version for games consoles, Windows Phone 7 availability and Facebook debut amongst others.
