LTE iPhone 5 Rumors Re-Ignited: Will It Happen?

March 4, 2022 | Tim Ollason

When it comes to Apple nothing really surprised me anymore, it still amazes but not surprises. If you think of what they did with the new MacBooks adding in the Thunderbolt connection and then not long after going ahead and showcasing the iPad 2 only for it to have a release date shortly after then you will know where we are coming from.

Now we are hearing that the LTE iPhone rumors have been re-ignited and we are wondering if it will ever actually happen. Let’s face it, if it’s going to happen then the ever secretive Apple aren’t going to just come out and say it are they?

We have just finished reading an article over at Engadget by Vlad Savov and he reports that there are two extremely senior dudes claiming that LTE is on Apple’s roadmap which makes us lean towards the thought that “it’s coming”. The report says that if you believe what China Mobile’s Chairman Wang Jianzhou says then it will be here very soon.

This follows in the footsteps of Dan Mead (CEO of Verizon) saying that Steve Jobs (Mr.Apple) has actually expressed an interest an LTE iPhone and that he is willing to get the development started. There has been lots of talk of the iPhone 5 having LTE capabilities but we are all hoping that the rumors are put to rest soon. Fingers crossed that we will hear something soon! Remember this is all rumors and speculation so please don’t take this literally.

Do you think we will see the iPhone 5 with LTE capabilities? Let us know in the comments section below.

I’m not sure. I have a feeling in my gut that they won’t. At least for AT&T. As you see in the past, AT&T has never released a phone that uses a network that isn’t out or ready. Example: iPhone (2g). We know it will at least have the A5 processor! Or maybe it will be an upgradable iPhone. (from AT&T’s GSM- LTE or Verizon’s CDMA- LTE). I am forced to believe that a “good” 4g iPhone won’t come until the iPhone 6 (or 5s or whatever they call it).

I returned my verizon iphone 4. Data speeds were very slow on their 3G network. I did extensive data down tests in various locations. My results were unimpressive. Average down load speeds were 300kbs. Max down load speeds were well under 1 meg a sec at 600kps. I took these results to my local verizon store and they said that the speed of my 3G iphone was acceptable. To who? I asked if their was an average 3G speed guaranty. NOPE… So lets hope the 4G LTE speed does hit the new iphone or I will get an android 4G LTE phone.

One it wasn’t ATT that didn’t release it, it was Apple. Two, there’s no CDMA LTE, LTE is part of the GSM family, hence the SIM card.
