When it comes to handheld games consoles there have been a few announcements in recent times, some of them include the Nintendo 3DS – the glasses free 3D device as well as the Sony NGP. Panasonic did have one in the pipeline too.
With that in mind we have just read a report on Engadget by Vlad Savov that Panasonic have decided to stop proceedings with theirs which was called Project Jungle. This could be perceived in multiple ways, one way would be well done to Panasonic for not continuing with the console as the competition would be too great. They would be spending valuable time, money, research and development.
Another way to look at it is that if this device had ever made it to production, then it would have meant more competition in the market place. If this had been priced competitively then it might have dented the sales of the 3DS and if it had been brought out before the NGP it might have affected those sales too.
Reuters were the original source for this information and in their report they say that Panasonic decided to suspend the development of the product due to changes in the market and in their own strategic direction, read the full report on this link.
