Best Buy Motorola Xoom Pre-Sale: Dates Change To 20 February

February 17, 2022 | Maddy Rowe

At the beginning of this year, it became apparent quite quickly, that tablets would be highly sought after devices this year. Just in the space of a month and a half, we have heard news of many on the way including the PlayBook which is reported to make an appearance sometime in April, the HTC Flyer, LG Optimus Pad, Samsung Galaxy 10.1 and of course the Apple iPad 2. But the one device that has intrigued many of us although the price is a little on the high side, is that of Motorola’s Xoom.

Packing a massive listing of specifications, it is set to be a big contender against the others mentioned above. With a launch date of the 24th February, customers were informed that pre-orders would take place for the tablet on the 17th, that’s tomorrow. But news in from various sources including that of has suggested that the pre-order date has now been changed to the 20th to follow in line with a current Motorola agreement.

A leaked internal memo from Best Buy, pictured below as a screen shot, is indicating that the tablet can be ordered on the date above. It also stated that if Motorola were to allow customers to pre-order before the 20th, would in fact violate any agreements made with the company. As far as the official launch date of the 24th is concerned, this still applies.

Along with this, in the last week we have emphasised suggestions that in order for customers to obtain WiFi on their Xoom, a minimum charge of $20 is required for Verizon’s 3G service plan. As well as this, the memo categorically points out that if customers choose to start and then stop the 3G service on the Xoom, then they will have to pay a re-activation fee, something of which is expected each time they stop the service. As Ubergizmo stated, for customers looking to purchase one of these tablets, will need to make a conscious decision from the off, otherwise they will find themselves shelling out on activation fees!

Tell us if you will be pre-ordering your Xoom from Best Buy? What are your thoughts on the fees to activate WiFi? Has it taken the shine off of buying your new tablet?
