Video Preview of Sony Ericsson Xperia Play

February 14, 2022 | Tim Ollason

The Sony Xperia Play has had plenty of media coverage since before MWC 2011; we have already brought you the official release date and specs. The device has finally been made public as it was announced on stage in Barcelona in front of the crowd.

Some of the details of the first PlayStation certified phone were leaked before MWC such as it running on Android 2.3 Gingerbread. With confirmed specs like the 1GHz Snapdragon processor and a 4” capacitive multi-touch screen with a resolution of 480 x 854 it really does make this device different.

When the pad hasn’t slid out it has a just its touchscreen and four Android buttons featuring along the bottom of the device. When you slide the rest of the device out you see a 4 directional D-pad, four of the normal PlayStation buttons being cross, square, triangle and circle and of course the touch-pad. It also has the two shoulder buttons L and R.

The device will have 50 titles available upon its March release but we have been hearing that the device will come pre-loaded with a classic title in Crash Bandicoot. There are a few classic games that we are hoping will make their way onto the device, these are Spyro the Dragon, Tenchu Stealth Assasins, Tekken, Metal Gear Solid and if they really want the device to do well Final Fantasy 7 and 8.

One thing that hasn’t yet been made clear is if you will be able to download your already purchased PSOne games from your PS3 onto your Xperia Play. We are hoping that you can especially with Sony moving towards interconnectivity between the devices. Check out a video at the bottom of the article courtesy of Engadget where they have gone hans-on with games being played, the second video shows you some of the titles to expect in one of their official promotional videos.

Are there any particular games that you are looking forward to being released onto the device? Let us know in the comments section below.
