MWC Sony Ericsson Xperia Neo: Official specs & release news

New from Mobile World Congress 2011 is already coming in thick and fast even though it doesn’t officially start until tomorrow. We were thinking we would hear more about 4 new Sony Ericsson phones at MWC 2011, and three of those were the Xperia Play, the Xperia Arc and the Xperia Neo and one other that could have been called the Xperia Duo.

Apart from the last name on which we’d heard nothing so far at all we’d had least detail on the Xperia neo although we’d seen some leaked specs that included a 1GHz Snapdragon processor and an impressive sounding 8.1-megapixel camera with LED flash. We’d also heard it would be running on Android 2.3, Gingerbread and was a refresh of the Vivaz, and then we also told of a leaked video.

Now though its time to get official and Ross Miller over on Engadget gives us all the news along with a press release on the neo from Sony Ericsson. We now know the Xperia neo comes with a 3.7-inch screen with 854 x 480 resolution and that it also has a 2-megapixel front-facing camera along with the aforementioned 8.1-megapixel camera. Users can also plug the neo into their HDTVs via HDMI.

The neo release will be in selected markets worldwide at the end of Q1 so not long to wait, and comes in Blue Gradiant, Red and Silver versions. We’re also hearing news of the other Sony Ericsson handset which we were expecting but had no news of, and it has been named the Sony Ericsson Xperia Pro so check back with us shortly for specs and release details of that.
