Motorola Xoom Pre-order price: $1,199 at Best Buy! - A mistake?

February 13, 2022 | Debbie Turner

We know just how many of you are avidly awaiting the arrival of the Motorola Xoom tablet device that looks set to be a major hit and a real contender as one of the best new tablets, up against the likes of the upcoming Apple iPad 2, the Samsung Galaxy Tab II and the BlackBerry PlayBook.

We’ve already given you numerous articles about the Xoom and among our most recent were a look at the Xoom vs. the iPad 2, the release date of February 24 along with news that a minimum 1 month data subscription with Verizon would be needed to activate WiFi functionality, and most recently we told of a Best Buy price from a leaked ad of $799.

Now this is where it gets interesting as we are now hearing from Vlad Savov over on Engadget of new pre-order details for the Xoom at Best Buy. You can see the Best Buy website page concerned for yourself at the link and you can make your pre-orders from this Thursday, February 17 but rather strangely there’s a whopping price tag listing of $1,199.99. This seems bizarre to us and it’s certainly a big difference between the previous price being bandied around of $799.

The website does say there are some great financing options available and for some, there’d have to be! We’re hoping, similar to Engadget that this is a giant mistake and will soon be altered, but it’s still on the website right now and looks official enough. If the price turns out to be genuine and you’re still interested in this Android 3.0 Honeycomb tablet, you can find out a lot more about the Motorola Xoom on the official Motorola product page here.

What are your thoughts on this astounding price tag? Would it put you off buying the Xoom, if indeed it’s accurate? Let us know with your comments please.

So this is going to cost the same as the Asus Eee Slate (which has an Intel i processor, runs full Windows 7 OS and has useful USB 2.0 and HDMI ports on the side along with SD card slot), and in fact the Asus Eee Slate cost a $100 less than this…….Nice Try like anybody will go for the Xoom over something clearly worth spending a $1000 for.

I’ve been posting pretty much the same comment on every article concerning this. this morning.

    I was so excited.

800$ and I was going to preorder mine on the 17th.

1200$ = waiting for G slate pricing and IPad 2 specs.

No I will not pay motorola 1200 when there is a 1500 Sony 3G tv.

I've changed my focus to the Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1. No HDMI nor USB ports but probably not the whopping pricetag either. I'll probably wait for the Wifi only version anyway. My new (hopefully) Galaxy S II phone should be able to support my data needs and share to the tablet via WiFi hotspot. Why do I need another data plan — moreover a limited data plan? Still, the shiny new Xoom toy was a bit of a draw — even at the overpriced $800, but $1200? You gotta be kidding me. I'd rather have an iPad than shell out $1200 for a Xoom. Heck, I could buy 2 iPads for that price.
