iPhone Confession App: Catholic Church approved but price to pay

February 8, 2022 | Debbie Turner

Not long ago we heard about church services in 3D and also the Pope has recently spoken about the digital age, and now it seems the church is continuing to move with the times. As the well-known saying goes, “there’s an app for that” and we haven’t thought of many things up until now that are not covered by an iTunes app. Hang on, of course you can’t make your Catholic Church confession with an app…except now, believe it or not, you can.

Not only can you get the iTunes Confession app ($1.99 or £1.19, there’s a price to pay for confession) but it has been approved by the Catholic Church in the U.S. and it’s described as “the perfect aid for every penitent,” according to BBC News. Users can admit their wrongdoings through the step-by-step guide to the sacrament and a confessions walkthrough, and even keep track of their sins, in what seems to be quite a radical move by the Catholic Church.

It also allows the user to examine their conscience and help them to understand what they’ve done, although it isn’t intended to entirely replace a trip to the priest for absolution. The Confession app was developed by Little iApps for the iPhone and iPad, with the help of several priests but there has been no official approval for it by the Catholic Church in England, although a spokeswoman told the BBC it would be looked into.

If you want to check out ‘Confession: A Roman Catholic App’ take this iTunes link for full details or to purchase. What are your thoughts on the ‘Confession’ app on iTunes? Are you pleasantly surprised that the Catholic Church has approved the app, or maybe shocked instead? We’d like to hear your comments on this please.
