Since the Consumer Electronics Show at the beginning of January, we have tried to do our best to keep you up-to-date with the latest goings on including what devices are coming your way, prices and release dates. The last 2 are always a little difficult to report on as rumored prices and launch dates are always set to change. But we are hoping that today’s news on the new Motorola Xoom tablet will be concrete information.
The Xoom tablet dubbed to be a stiff contender against the likes of Apple’s iPad and BlackBerry’s PlayBook, has plenty to show off about. Today’s news from Engadget is now pointing towards a Xoom release date of 24 February from Best Buy. If this is the case then this scuppers any previous ideas of the 17 February being the day. So is there any way of being sure? Not really, but as Ubergizmo stated, the news from retailer Best Buy came via their very own Facebook page, highlighting dates for the Xoom and HTC’s Thunderbolt smartphone for Valentines Day.
On eventual release, the tablet will include the running of Android 3.0 Honeycomb, an OS we just reported on the other day. As well as this, you can expect to find the inclusion of Verizon’s 3G network until the second quarter when it will be upgraded to 4G, 1GHz dual-core processor, HD widescreen, front and rear facing cameras, HD video recording with support for Adobe Flash 10.1 and so on.
Debbie here at OSM reported on the Motorola Xoom being presented to us during an advertisement for the Super Bowl, which is due to commence this weekend. Along with this, NFL’s Chad Ochocinco was reported to have taken to Twitter, to not just talk about but hold a picture of the Xoom for the nation to see, giving us a little indication that the Xoom is now on its way. His comments on the tablet consequently were “pretty awesome.”
Are you waiting for the Xoom to make an appearance? Or are your thoughts with some of the other contenders? If so, let us know which one(s)?
