Droid X successor from Motorola: Dual-core Daytona?

For those of you who are Droid X enthusiasts you may be pleased to hear about a new development for this Android smartphone from Motorola as it seems a successor is planned. What’s more the second-generation Droid X will feature a dual-core processor bringing it right up to date with other upcoming smartphones such as the Atrix 4G and Droid Bionic, also from Motorola.

This news comes to us from Zach Epstein at BGR, sourced from Hot Hardware, and comes from a so-far unconfirmed report about a new, improved version. The larger-than-large Droid X is already an impressive device but it’s reported that a new version would feature a 1GHz Tegra 2 dual-core processor and also an improved resolution of 540 x 960 on the same-sized screen of 4.3-inches.

It’s speculated to run on the Android 2.2 Froyo operating system, which could be updated, and will have an 8-megapixel camera with 720p HD video recording. The codename for this new phone is currently ‘Daytona’ but of course this could change. As yet there are no price or release date details but it seems as though it will be carried by Verizon.

Electronista has also reported on the Droid X 2 and notes that although there are claims that it will look very much like the original Droid X although conflicting leaks suggest it may be a variant with silver housing which could even have a 1.2 GHz processor. No doubt we’ll be hearing more at MWC 2011 next month. What are your thoughts on the Droid X sequel? Let us know by sending us your comments please.
