Twitter & Facebook favorite Keith Olbermann quits

We have news today that Twitter and Facebook favorite, Keith Olbermann, suddenly quit his post as his show came to a close last night. Popular and sometimes controversial host of MSNBC’s “Countdown”, Olbermann has produced many a social media buzz in his time on air and many will miss him.
After being suspended back by MSNBC in November following donations he made to political candidates, his huge fan base campaigned on Facebook for his return and Olbermann was subsequently brought back. Adam Ostrow over on Mashable reports that Olbermann announced he was leaving the show immediately and a statement from MSNBC thanked Olbermann for his “integral role in MSNBC’s success.” So far no update has been made about this on Olbermann’s Twitter page here.
Meanwhile William Browning over on Associated Content also reports on Olbermann quitting and says that he spent three minutes thanking viewers for their part in his success. Olbermann has 182,000 followers on Twitter, who no doubt will be keen to find out what he plans to do next. The way Olbermann quit raises questions over whether it was his choice, a mutual decision, of whether in fact MSNBC fired him and no doubt more will become clear over the coming days.
Are you surprised by the nature in which Olbermann quit the show? Are you sorry to see him go? We’d like to hear your thoughts so please do send us your comments.
