Motorola Xoom & HTC Thunderbolt: Price details

Since the New Year and of course the events at CES 2011, here at OSM we’ve been doing our best to keep you up-to-date with the most-talked about devices. Two of the devices that have been spoken about the most are the first tablet that will run on Android 3.0 Honeycomb and a 4G smartphone, the HTC Thunderbolt, with both of these coming to Verizon.

We’ve posted many articles about both of these including the Apple iPad 2 vs Motorola Xoom, and a look at the Xoom in comparison with the BlackBerry Playbook. For the HTC Thunderbolt just recently we spoke of Verizon training giving clues about this device, such as the fact that it will have simultaneous voice and data usage, a hands-on look, and only today the expectations of an announcement about it at MWC 2011 next month.

However what many of our readers have wanted to know about these is how much the prices will be and up to now we’ve not had much to go on. Now though we’ve got some interesting news from Phil Nickinson over on Android Central. Some information stemming from Verizon has been spotted which contains the minimum prices that these devices will cost. The price of the Motorola Xoom is listed as $799 and the HTC Thunderbolt should set you back $249 which is roughly what we predicted in our article about rumored prices and release dates for Verizon 4G LTE phones.

We cannot assert though that these will be the definite prices on release as anything can change but it certainly gives us an idea. The price for the Xoom is VERY different to that speculated in an article by Rachel Daley on Chicago Independent News, which quoted a Car Toys rep as saying that a source at Verizon had said that the Motorola Xoom would be priced at between $250 and $299 in comparison to the iPad 2 price which would be around $599. We did think those prices for the Xoom were far too low and think that Android Central’s prices seem more like what we’d expected.

What are your thoughts on the prices of both of these devices? Are they around what you anticipated and will you be heading out to grab either of these impressive products? Let us know by sending your comments please
