HTC Thunderbolt Release: MWC 2011 Announcement?

While HTC and Verizon Wireless are keeping a tight rein on information regarding the release dates of the new Thunderbolt smartphone, rumor has surfaced stating that the wait may not be as far away as we once thought.

Jamie over at PR News reported on evidence sourced that could indicate an unveiling possibility for February 14th, this also happens to be the first day of 2011′s Mobile World Congress in Barcelona.

Brighthand touched on an overview of the Thunderbolt, with its 4.3-inch WVGA display and tablet style kickstand. Running Android OS 2.2 and a 1 GHz processor on HTC’s Sense overlay, it will be one of the first 4G smartphones available from Verizon Wireless. Although it will not boast a massive internal memory, storage can be upped through microSD card slot, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth and GPS will also be installed along with proximity and a G-sensor.

Whether or not this release date rumor is true, we will have to wait and see. What we can be certain of is that when it does finally appear, HTC will certainly have a serious competitor of Apple’s iPhone 5. Give us your thoughts on HTC’s latest smartphone. Do you think it will be able to cut the mustard against its other high-end smartphone counterparts?

I am extremely ready for this phone! 4.3 inch screen, Android 2.2, kickstand, damn! I've been stuck with this Blackberry Curve for two years, time to move on up!

I think those wh are goin to Iphone will do so anyways.. no getting through to them. But for the Android fans, its between this HTC and the BIONIC.. and with a Summer release date (if that) on that, along with Samsung Lack of updates and GPS faliures.. Looks like HTC will be a Winner..
I don't think LG will find any space here except as a low cost Smart phone.

I think it's a solid phone despite not having a dual-core processor. I can't wait for the Bionic and HTC seems to be on top of pushing Android updates so it should see 2.3 pretty 'quickly.' Been waiting since October to ditch my POS BB Storm so the time is drawing near!

Getting a new phone in April, May, or June. I am stuck between the LG Revolution, HTC Thunderbolt, or Verizon iPhone. I am getting now the HTC Thunderbolt. Can't Wait!!

  6. MarieTherese says:

Since I'm on my THIRD Droid X- here's to you, Motorola, for bowing to pressure to update to Froyo which totally ruined this phone- I am waiting for the Thunderbolt to rescue me from freeze-up and dropped call hell….
My real question is, "Why does Verizon continue to get sucked in by Motorola's "catch up" tactics and foist phones with known software problems on their customers?"

  7. Mike says:

I was told by best buy today they would have it within three weeks and by wirefly in 12-20 days. Don't know if it's true but seems soon.
