Sony PSP2 Vs. PlayStation Phone: Which Will You Buy?

January 20, 2022 | Tim Ollason

We have heard a lot of speculation surrounding both the Sony PSP2 and the PSP Phone, starting with the PSP 2, we reported on the addition of an HD screen and a touchpad to the rear of the PSP2 and also how Sony have apparently said that the PSP2 will be as powerful as the PS3.

As for the PlayStation Phone, there has been lots of news, leaks and clips released of the device. It seems that this is Sony’s worst kept secret. With MWC just around the corner, we are expecting the device to be revealed officially at the event. We have also heard some of the specs for the PlayStation Phone, some of them include the 1GHz Snapdragon QSD8255 processor, 512MB of RAM, 5 megapixel camera and 4” LCD display at a resolution of 854 x 480 (we hear it makes phone calls too).

As for the PSP2, we like everyone else including Leigh Alexander from are expecting it to be announced at Sony’s business overview and strategy meeting in Tokyo which is scheduled for January 27th, VG247’s Patrick Garratt says that he expects that Sony will use the event as a revelation platform for the PSP2.

The PSP2 is going to have to be very good if it’s going to start competing in the handheld gaming market, which is currently dominated by Nintendo. As you are probably aware, Nintendo has announced the release dates of their new baby, the Nintendo 3DS and that you can pre-order the device from Amazon already. We wonder what Sony is going to do at the event; surely they will do something different to try and compete?

If you had the choice between the PlayStation Phone and the PSP2, which would you buy? Tell us your thoughts in the comments section below.

I want the PSPhone, I don't care to much for the PSP2, as far as I'm concerned they can release that next year. They should just focus on the PSPhone/xPeria Play combined with Android, the people must know that there is something like the Apple App store with free stuff and cheap games. AND, if Sony don't match those prices from Apple, then the uptake of the new phone will be slow to say the least, no one knows how much this thing will cost, but I bet it will be higher than the latest iPhone.
