Previously we have reported on Skype’s unscheduled downtime and all of our frustrations. We also reported that Skype would be purchasing Qik and what it may mean for Verizon users. Now we want to tell you a little more about it.
The purchase of Qik has been completed in just over a week, very speedy don’t you think? Skype bought Qik for somewhere between $100 – $150 million. Something that we are wondering, what happens to those who are in partnership with Qik such as Sprint?
Neil Stevens over on the Skype blog has said that Skype are happy to confirm that the acquisition of Qik has been completed. All of the shares and funds between the shareholders have been completed and that Qik is now under the ownership of Skype. How will this help Skype moving forward or is this their route to covering all devices.
Ross Miller over at Engadget.com has written an article about the recent acquisition where some of the comments don’t seem to be overly happy about it, but we think we need to wait and try it out for ourselves. It looks like Qik won’t be instantly changing things but it may in the future.
