Top new tablets: CES 2011 – Five of the best

CES 2011 showed us some fantastic new products and the tablet device was one of the major stories this year. We’ve posted many articles about tablets that showed up at CES and thought it might be useful to round up 5 of the best and have linked to previous articles so you can read more about each device. We are not claiming that these are THE top 5, that’s always going to be open to discussion, but these are definitely ones to look out for.

One very much near the top of the list would have to be the Motorola Xoom which will be the first tablet to run on Android 3.0, Honeycomb. It has a 10.1-inch screen size and the NVIDIA Tegra 2 processor and was also voted ‘Best in Show’ so you can see just how popular this was. However the Notion Ink Adam is an innovative product that has also received huge attention. This also has a 10.1-inch display. There has been so much interest in these first two products that you may also want to take a look at our article the Motorola Xoom vs. Notion Ink Adam and the many comments it spawned.

The Samsung Galaxy Tab, although not new, did have a new development from CES and that was a new 4G LTE enabled version with improved processor and camera which will be available exclusively to Verizon. On to the next and although we’d already heard of RIM’s BlackBerry PlayBook this was also previewed at CES and will certainly be one of the biggest contenders on this market with its own OS called QNX.

Finally our 5 of the best concludes with the Vizio VIA tablet with 8-inch screen, front-facing camera, and a built-in IR blaster with universal remote control app. This selection should hopefully give you some idea of some of the great tablets coming to the market and of course we shouldn’t forget that although the iPad 2 was not presented at CES, we did get reported glimpses and mock-ups. We’re always interested in what you have to say so please do send us your comments and tell us about tablets which you think could/should have been in our ‘5 of the best.’
