Social Media & The Workplace: More Conflicts

The entire world is moving towards social media and social networking sites. It doesn’t matter if you are searching for old friends and family, advertising, adding an article from your business or simply adding a status update. Recently there seems to have been too many conflicts between the workplace and social media. By Work place we are including schools.

Back in November, we brought you an article that reported on Social Media in the work (UK), where a report had been produced with some interesting findings, read more about it here. Social Media is something that has grown quickly in a short space of time, which means a lot of companies and employees don’t quite know how to handle it.

Recently we have reported that a 22 year old college student has been excluded from her college in her final year of nursing school, she was excluded for posting a picture on Facebook of her and a human placenta whilst the tutor didn’t oppose any of it. If that young lady had realized the consequences of social networking during those particular hours, none of this would have happened.

What we are saying is that there are simply too many conflicts between the workplace and social media. We feel that guidelines need to be put in place by the company where you work who will dictate their policy on social networking and social media. Our view is shared by Meredith Hoenes over at We urge you to watch the video at the bottom of the article and then we want to know your opinion on the subject matter. We believe that the same policies that get set, should be looked at every 6 months, perhaps even sooner with the rate that technology is advancing.

Do you think that the workplace needs to integrate social media? Should the work place abolish social networking? Let us know your thoughts in the comments below.
