Facebook Photos: Record number at New Year

Social networking giant Facebook continues to be the focus of more news, every day it seems, and just a couple of our recent posts include the use of Facebook to catch a thief and how Goldman Sachs is to invest $450 million in Facebook. Now we have details for you of just how popular the Photos feature has become since its launch.

A staggering 750 million photos were uploaded on Facebook over the New Year according to Lucian Parfeni over on Softpedia, sourced from TechCrunch, despite not being able to match the features of photo sharing services such as Flickr and Picasa. The social element of sharing images on Facebook has seen it hit huge popularity especially because of being able to tag your friends.

Even though sharing photos is not the main element of Facebook it has now become the biggest online photo host and has seen off all the competition with Mark Zuckerberg, Facebook CEO saying last year that Facebook Photos was now bigger than all the combined competition by around 5 or 6 times.

Another story brought to our attention about Facebook Photos is that of a medical student who has been expelled because of photos posted on Facebook so it’s not all good news. You can read more about that in an article by Jackie Cohen over on All Facebook. What are your thoughts on the huge success of Facebook Photos? Why not send us your comments on this.
