The success that Android has experienced in 2010 is nothing short of amazing, inevitably there are going to be problems at some stage. A recent problem is one that relies on technology that is more than a decade old.
After reading many of the threads on the SMS problem, a lot of consumers are angered by the issue and are stating that it shouldn’t ever have occurred. In some ways you can agree, but when you think about the amount of technology that appears these days in your mobile phone is unbelievable. With all the new technology being added, there will always be knock on effects, some of which will not always be foreseen.
It is quite a worrying prospect that your message could indeed go to the incorrect recipient especially if there is any important or sensitive information shared by text. If a text goes to the wrong person with some serious information, it could cause some serious damage! From what we have seen, this problem is appearing in versions 2.2 and 2.3 without really being recognized as a bug by Android. This is something that really does need to be addressed and resolved.
As Engadget’s Chris Ziegler rightly points out, if you cannot rely on a device to do what it says it is going to do, then quite simply it’s a game breaker. Some of the responses are fairly amusing where people have posted their stories on it but still it’s a serious problem for Google Android.
