If you are thinking of buying, or have already bought a 2011 Ford Fiesta, I’m sure you will be pleased to hear that Ford’s Sync Applink is now able to connect to Blackberry and Android devices.
On the other hand, if you’re an iPhone user then don’t despair, as Ford plans to introduce compatibility next year. As Peter Chubb over at PR News comments, we are not quite sure why the iPhone support is being delayed but at least we know it’s coming.
It goes to show how far technology has progressed since the days of large car phones fitted in huge dash-mounted cradles. When a simple download and data transfer via USB stick is all you need to add this connectivity to your vehicle. Engadget says that Ford believes they are at the forefront of this kind of technology, there is certainly an appeal to be able to control features on your car with the use of your smartphone.
Once installed the app will allow you to gain control of the apps on your iPhone by simply giving voice commands through the Ford Sync Applink system. This will make function control a safer operation whilst driving.
The question is where do we go from here? Tell us what sort of features you would like to access via voice control?
