Sony PS3 Gains ITV & C4 For UK Streaming

With Sony’s PS3 hot property at the moment, especially on the run up to the festive season, the gaming console not only allows users to access online gaming but also doubles up as a Blu-Ray disc player. Well now to make the PS3 even more of a essential to your home entertainment system it has been reported by Engadget that ITV and Channel 4, two of the UK’s biggest commercial channels can now be streamed through the PS3 console.

As mentioned, BBC iPlayer, the video-on-demand service, will be the main competition. With iPlayer’s success, this can only be a massive boost to Sony’s command of the market. Working with the Japanese electronics giant, ITV will work along the same lines as the BBC’s service by pushing online video-on-demand to a broader audience. Eventually, ITV wants to find it’s way onto a larger number of platforms including web-connected TVs and tablet devices.

As well as this, Sony has confirmed over 4 million PS3 units have been sold with web connection meaning that once the service has been set up by the end of this week, the size of the potential interest could be huge.

Are you a user of BBC iPlayer and will you be interested in adding extra channels to your streaming service? To find out more head on over to Engadget.
