Gift cards are always a popular choice for Christmas and the holiday shopping season and we recently brought you news of a great idea, a Facebook gift card for purchasing virtual objects online. However many of us have experienced being given a well-intentioned gift card at some time for a store we’d never usually use. For me that would be a gardening store for instance.
Now a new initiative, the Tango Card, is set to take the pain out of both giving and receiving the wrong kind of gift card and will stop many of those unused cards from lurking in the bottom of people’s bags and drawers. With the Tango Card the lucky recipient has a selection of stores to spend their gift, according to Brenna Ehrlich over on Mashable and there’s also a free iPhone app for it. It doesn’t cover every store but certainly offers a decent choice such as Target, Amazon, Nike, Home Depot, Gap, Starbucks and more. Let’s face it most people could find something they want in at least one or two of those outlets.
If a user has money left to spend on the card they can also choose to donate that to a charity. That’s a really useful added bonus as many times those odd amounts left over get forgotten about whereas you can select to give it instead to charities such as America Scores, Habit for Humanity of the National Park Foundation among others. Alternatively users will be able to cash in any amount left over on the card.
A free iPhone app is also available to help recipients keep track of what they have on their Tango Cards. For more on this go to mashable.com. This sounds like a very clever and useful idea but we’d like to know what you think so please do send us your comments about this.
