Wikileaks Update: Leaked cables key points

Last week we brought you the news that another major leak of documents was about to come from Wikileaks, the whistle blowing site, which it said would redefine global history. Then yesterday we brought more news to say the site was under a mass distributed service of denial attack, shortly before the documents were to be released online.

However Wikileaks said that the information had already been distributed to major newspapers globally and so the leaks have still come out and are being widely discussed on news channels. The U.S is strongly condemning the leaks of cables of U.S. diplomats overseas and a Republican congressman even called for Wikileaks to be labelled as a terrorist organization, according to BBC News.

However Julian Assange, the founder of Wikileaks asserts that the U.S. government is merely concerned at having to face the consequences of the leaks. There are many major issues of discussion in the leaks that have come out so far including computer hacking from the Chinese government and security concerns surrounding Pakistani nuclear material but the BBC has issued a very comprehensive breakdown of all the key points which you can see at the BBC link above. You can also see the Wikileaks Twitter feed here.

What are your thoughts on Wikileaks and these new documents being revealed? We’d be really interested to know your thoughts on this so please send in your comments.

  1. I think this is quite careless. There are a lot of things in the world that shouldn't be disclosed, not because they are considerably controversial, but because they are complicated in nature. I'm not saying everything that the government is doing is okay, but if these leaks compromises our safety, then it's just quite blatantly careless for one organization to just release them publicly.
